This lithograph map of downtown Chicago in 1862 was prepared by E. Whitefield for the map-making concern of Rufus Blanchard (which can be found on LaSalle Street north of the Courthouse). It offers a rich sense of the location of Chicago businesses at the time and what they did shortly before different kinds of economic interests became more segregated by location.
