Copyrights in the text and other materials created for the Electronic Encyclopedia are owned by the Chicago Historical Society. Copyrights in design elements are owned by Northwestern University. Copyrights in design elements in the year pages and timeline are owned by the University of Chicago Press. Copyrights in all historical records and documents not in the public domain (including but not limited to photographs, newspaper articles, etc.) appearing on these pages are owned by various individuals and institutions and these records and documents are reprinted here with permission.
