McHenry County, 41 miles NW of the Loop. This community began as a group of summer homes along Andersen's Lake (now Silver Lake). Area residents, wanting to improve roads and control zoning, debated incorporation in the 1950s. Incorporated as Oakwood Hills in 1959, the village is a bedroom community for local workers and Chicago commuters. The 2000 population was 2,194.
