Kellogg (Charles P.) & Co.

A descendant of Chicago clothing companies founded in the 1850s, this large enterprise was founded in 1868 by C. P. Kellogg. By the 1870s, when the company was the leading manufacturer of clothing in the Midwest, it employed as many as 3,000 people and grossed about $2 million in annual sales. The founder and his son Charles P. Kellogg both died in 1883. The company faltered in the depression of 1893 and creditors assigned its assets.
