Wonder Lake, IL

McHenry County, 56 miles NW of the Loop. Situated on the west side of an artificial lake, residents of the Sunrise Ridge subdivision incorporated as Wonder Lake in 1974 to obtain local control of building codes and zoning, and police services. The village remains a slowly expanding bedroom community with a population of 1,345 in 2000.
