Union, IL

McHenry County, 53 miles NW of the Loop. Platted in 1851 as a station on the Galena & Chicago Union Railroad, the village failed to prosper. Incorporated in 1897, Union remained a smalltrading center. It is home to the McHenry County Historical Society and the Illinois Railway Museum. The population in 2000 was 576.
