Lakewood, IL

McHenry County, 45 miles NW of the Loop. Nestled along the south shore of Crystal Lake, this 1920s subdivision of large homes incorporated in 1933. Upscale housing development in the 1980s brought growth to the small community. Struggling to grow from its 2000 population of 2,337, the village battled neighbor Crystal Lake to annex commercial and residential properties.
