Lake in the Hills, IL

McHenry County, 41 miles NW of the Loop. Lake in the Hills was developed as a summer estate around artificial lakes in the 1920s, and investors began residential subdivisions of the area in the 1940s. In- corporated in 1952, the rolling terrain is now a vast residential area. The village's population grew from 5,866 in 1990 to 23,152 in 2000.
