Illinois and Michigan Canal Telegram, 1848 | ||||
Illinois and Michigan Canal administrators readily appreciated the speed of telegraphic communications as they sought to maintain the canal. In early December 1848 it was urgent for boats to exit the canal so that it could be drained before freezing weather arrived.
