Holiday Hills, IL

McHenry County, 43 miles NW of the Loop. Originally a cluster of 1930s summer vacation cabins along the north shore of Griswold Lake, the area grew after the 1940s as Chicagoansbegan looking for a place to raise children in a country environment. The community incorporated in 1976 to obtain revenue-sharing dollars to improve their roads. The 2000 population was 831.
