Gilberts, IL

Kane County, 41 miles NW of the Loop. Platted in 1855 as Gilbert's Station along the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, the community served as a loading point for agricultural commodities. Incorporated in 1890 as Gilberts, the village grew slowly until the proximity of Interstate 90 and the growth of nearby Elgin brought increased development. Population in 2000 was 1,279.
