Crow Island classroom, Winnetka, 1940. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, the "Winnetka Plan" served as a model of progressive education. It emphasized group and creative activities as well as individualized instruction designed to allow children to learn at their own pace. In this classroom, decorated with pictures and information about American Indians, students sit in a tipi while wearing costumes and weaving, activities designed to teach them about Native American culture.
