Skokie Marsh, in an undated photograph. The lowland area in western Winnetka, Glencoe, and Highland Park was known as the Skokie Marsh, which connected to the North Branch of the Chicago River. It was transformed into the Skokie Lagoon by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
