Technicians measuring blood counts, Wesley Hospital, 1951. By the 1950s, the clinical laboratory became a standard feature in hospitals, along with a new professional: the medical technician. Physicians' offices could not easily accommodate these new technologies, leading to an increased movement of diagnosis and treatment from private offices to the hospitals.
