Lake County, 29 miles SE of the Loop. Incorporated in 1908, New Chicago is part of the
Gary
metro area, located southeast of the intersections of I-65 and I-80/94. It numbered 2,063 residents according to the 2000 census, about 82 percent non-Hispanic white, the remainder mostly Latino.
