Kane County, 48 miles W of the Loop. In 1851, Andrew Pingree platted Burlington, which had three cheese factories by 1878 and incorporated as a village in 1906. The last dairy plant closed in the 1970s. Burlington has been home to small plastics companies in recent decades and had a population of 452 in 2000.
