McHenry County, 52 miles NW of the Loop. Local residents voted to incorporate in 1977 to protect their estate-style development, tucked into hilly, wooded terrain. Containing historic 1850s buildings such as the noted Terwilliger and Stickney houses, the carefully developing community still prizes its rural atmosphere. The population in 2000 was 726.
