Shorewood, IL

Will County, 39 miles SW of the Loop. In 1834, Jedediah Wooley, Jr., built a large sawmill along the DuPage River, among the first of its kind in Will County. In 1931, residents established the Shorewood Beach Improvement Association. In 1957, Shorewood incorporated to regulate trailers along the river. In the 1970s, Shorewood began a residential boom based on convenient access to interstates 55 and 80. The village grew from 1,749 in 1970 to 7,686 in 2000.
