Plan for Proposed Comprehensive Terminal at the South End of Lake Calumet, 1953 | ||||
The 1953 Plan called for expansion of dock facilities on Lake Calumet, both through dredging the lake and filling in parts of it. The plans came in anticipation of the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959. Anticipating greater shipping on the Great Lakes, Chicago sought to capture more than its share of the increase.
