Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium, 1947 | ||||
This aerial photograph of the lakefront, looking southeast, offers a view of the Field Museum (center), the Shedd Aquarium (center left), the Adler Planetarium (rear left at the end of the parkway), Northerly Island (rear right), and Soldier Field (right). Meigs Field is not yet developed on Northerly Island. At this point Lake Shore Drive's northbound traffic was routed east of Soldier Field and the Field Museum, while the southbound lanes were located to the west. By the end of 1996, the entire highway had been moved west of the stadium and the museum, and the improvement of Roosevelt Road made possible a much more unified "museum campus" with pedestrian access to Grant Park.
