Hull House Map (Wages), 1895 | ||||
Members of the Hull House Settlement investigated conditions in their Near West Side neighborhood and compiled the results in
Hull-House Maps and Papers, published in 1895. One of the maps in the volume depicted wage levels for residents of the area bordered by Polk, Twelfth (now Roosevelt Road), Halsted, and Jefferson Streets, revealing that the weekly wages for a majority of families in the neighborhood was between five and fifteen dollars for a six-day week.
