McHenry County, 54 miles NW of the Loop. Sheltering a well-maintained collection of two dozen beautiful Victorian-era homes, Richmond was founded in 1844 adjacent to a mill on the Nippersink Creek. Incorporated in 1872 to accommodate railroad -related growth which never materialized, the community is now a mecca for antique collectors. Its population in 2000 was 1,091.
