Business Portion of Chicago, 1862 | ||||
This lithograph map of downtown Chicago in 1862 was prepared by E. Whitefield for the map-making concern of Rufus Blanchard (which can be found on LaSalle Street north of the Courthouse). It offers a rich sense of the location of businesses and what they did. This was shortly before different kinds of businesses became more segregated by location.
